KEEP ON TRYING, PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT!!
At first I tried to weld the lug back together and had no success what-so-ever, the lug got so hot it melted and became so misshapen it was of no use at all. I was using a 4043 rod and this was just beading on the cast, I was having great difficulty with the job and I felt I was using enough heat but just couldn’t weld it. I rang Lynn and discussed the job with her, she was so helpful and advised me to use much more heat with a No 2 tip. Well I tried it and as you can see from the photos it worked a treat.
As I mentioned earlier the piece was of no use at all so I decided to build it up instead. This was done by repeatedly building up on each weld. Once built up I then shaped it using an angle grinder and file to the required size, re-drilled the hole and as I say so my self, job well done.
Don’t be afraid to belt the heat in on large casts, it really does need it and like me enjoy using the DHC 2000.
